NorthernDeanery Profile...

The Northern Deanery comprises of four vocational training schemes, Tees Valley, East Cumbria, Northumbria and West Cumbria. The deanery lies south of the border with Scotland and covers, Cleveland, Durham, Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland, North Cumbria, Sunderland, and parts of North Yorkshire.

This is a wonderful part of the country and you will undoubtedly enjoy a quality lifestyle throughout your training with us. There are abundant opportunities for outdoor pursuits (e.g. climbing, fell walking, sailing, horse-riding etc.), particularly in the beautiful Lake District, Weardale, Teesdale and the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. The cities and towns of the region provide a range of historical and modern cultural experiences as well as hosting renowned football, rugby and cricket clubs.

The Northern Deanery was one of the first in the country to be involved in vocational training for General Practice. We have an excellent reputation for offering training individually designed for your needs and our registrars have always maintained a high level of success in the MRCGP, with an exam preparation course organised for all registrars in the Deanery. Our Schemes offer high quality half-day release programmes throughout the training period. We offer a complete range of experience in general practice from rural to inner city, have a wide variety of selected and supervised hospital posts throughout the area and a large and growing number of innovative post opportunities.
