Do I need a work permit?

Unless you are a UK or EEA National or the spouse or partner of UK/EEA National; or have right of residence, settled status or indefinite leave to remain; or the spouse of someone who has indefinite leave to remain; or a refugee; or a citizen of a commonwealth country with grandparents who were born in the UK; you will need a work permit to take up a GP training post.

Employers are unable to obtain work permits unless there are no suitable applicants who do not require a work permit available. This is unlikely to be the case for General Practice training posts.

At the present time doctors who hold an HSMP visa and those dependant on an HSMP visa holder do not need a work permit.

See Overseas Doctors for more information about these requirements
