The National Recruitment Office for GP Training

Is it possible to spend longer training in a general practice setting?

Yes. Although the training programme usually consists of 24 months in hospital posts and 12 months in a GP practice, it is within the regulations to do up to 24 months in a GP training practice, and most deaneries will be able to offer 18 months in a GP based post from August 2008.
