FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do I need a work permit?

Overseas doctors whose immigration status entitled them to work as a doctor in training in the UK are eligible to apply for specialty training programmes. Other non-UK or non-EEA nationals with limited leave to remain in the UK, whose employment will require a Work Permit, are subject to the resident labour market test. The labour market test means that you would only be considered for a training programme if there are no suitable UK or EEA national candidates. This is unlikely to be the case for GP specialty training programmes.
